Athletics Day

Hi bloggers!!! 2 weeks ago was our Athletics day. We participated in different sports at school. There was some sports like high jump, tennis and many others. Here are some photos on the day. I hope you enjoy the photos. Have a look!!!

What I found hard on the day was the high jump and the long distance runs. High jump because I had a sore ankle and the long distance because I'm not a long distance runner. I still enjoyed it though. I'm also sure others did too.

What I enjoyed: I enjoyed the sports and the way I communicated with others. I enjoy the Zones too. People who came 1, 2, 3 and 4 made it to zones. I came in those places and made it into zones.

I hope you enjoyed the photos. If you want to see more please keep in contact with my blog. Please feel free to leave a comment or some feedback for me. I hope you enjoyed reading this blog!!!

Celebration Day Thinking Hats

Hi bloggers! Today I'm blogging on my Celebration day thinking hats. The slideshow represents the 6 De Bono six thinking hats. Each one describes how the Celebration day was. They each represent something like the green one represents creativity. Enjoy the Slide!!!

What I found hard was the negativity on the day because everything was good. What I also found hard was writing six sentences because for some of the hats I could only write about three but then I had to figure it out on what I was going to write.

What I learnt: I learnt that you can learn a lot from the 6 six thinking hats. I knew a lot about the Celebration day but after writing about it using the 6 thinking hats, I learnt more about the Celebration. I mostly learnt about what didn't like. I thought that I liked everything but after writing that black hat. I found out I didn't like a lot of things at the Celebration day.

I hope you enjoyed the slideshow. Please feel free to leave a comment or some feedback for me. I hope you liked my work, I can't wait to see your blog.

Tote Bags

Hi Blogging World!!! For the past weeks we have been making Tote bags. We have been making bags for the Gala Celebration and so we don't have to use plastic bags because we are polluting the ocean with plastic bags. The way plastic bags are effecting our ocean is it is going down the outside drain and the fish are eating it. I am also learning how to Screen print and to sew.

The steps to making a Tote bag are:
  1. Get some Calico
  2. Then you can cut out another fabric the same size or you could get another piece of Calico and Screen print
  3. Once done you pin the 2 pieces together and you pin all the sides and leave 1 side unpinned for the open part of the bag
  4. Then you sew the sides that are pinned
  5. Then you fold down some of the top down and iron it down
  6. Then you sew that part
  7. Then you do it again and iron it
  8. Then sew it down
  9. And then you flip the right way and find some straps and cut 2 pieces 70 centimetres long
  10. Then pin them on to the bag
  11. Then you sew a square that connects it on to the bag
  12. Then you Iron it all of it down and you're DONE!!!
Steps to Screen print:
  1. Draw up a design
  2. Grab some ink or paint
  3. Then grab the screen and the squeegee
  4. Place some newspaper on the table
  5. Then put 1 of the Calico on top of the newspaper
  6. Put the screen on top of the drawing
  7. Then you grab a spoon and scoop some paint or ink onto the Screen
  8. Then grab the squeegee and slide it down the screen
  9. Then once you done it once scrape the rest of the ink/paint off the squeegee and put it on the screen
  10. Then do a couple more slides of the paint/ink on the screen till you think it's done
  11. Then take the screen off carefully
  12. Then your Finished!!!
Reflection:
I found the screen printing easy and the sewing hard. The sewing is hard because it's hard to keep track of all the steps. I found the screen printing easy because it is like painting to me. You draw and the you slide paint/ink on it. The good thing is that we are helping the world recycle and stop pollution. The ugly part was the class was a mess and we had fabric everywhere and there was fray everywhere.

Gala Celebration

This week in class we were asked to make an advertisement on the Gala Day. On this it has most of the info you will need on the day. We are doing sustainable products because our world is being polluted and rubbish numbers are increasing in the ocean, and animals are dying quicker in the ocean by eating the rubbish in the ocean. I hope you like my work!

I hope you liked my work! If want to see more of my work stay in touch with my blog, wpslaviniac.blogpot.co.nz to see more. Please feel free to leave a comment or some feedback. Also feel free to come to our school for the Gala day on the 25th November from 10am-3pm. Blog You Later Bloggers!!!

Hatupatu and the Bird-Women

This week in we did Literacy tumble. In Literacy tumble we have 2 tasks to do for the week. This week one of the tasks to do was Hatupatu and the Bird-woman. We had to SMRF a doc and do the work on it. Here's My Work!!!

Hatupatu and the Bird-Woman

Adapted from Te Ao Hou The New World, No. 53 (December 1965, p31)

When Hatupatu was hunting one day for birds in the forest, he met a woman who was spearing birds for herself. This woman had wings on her arms, and claws instead of fingers. Her lips were long and hard and pointed, like a bird's beak, and she was using them as a spear. Now the woman speared a bird with her lips, and just at the same moment Hatupatu threw this spear at a bird, but missed and hit the woman. When he saw this, he ran away in terror. But the Bird-Woman soon caught him, for with her wings she could travel as fast as a cheetah. Then the woman, whose name was Kurangaituku, took Hatupatu home to her cave, and kept him prisoner there.

This woman never ate anything but raw food, and she gave him only raw birds to eat. He pretended to eat these but hid them instead. At dawn each day the Bird-Woman went out to spear birds, but Hatupatu stayed at home. When she had gone he roasted the meat he had hidden, and looked at all the possessions in her cave. There were pet birds and lizards, a taiaha, and piles of precious cloaks: flaxen cloaks, cloaks of dogs fur, and cloaks of red feathers.

Every day Hatupatu wished very much that he could escape and take them with him. One morning he said to the Bird-Woman, “When you go hunting today you had better go a long way, and travel over a thousand hills. When you get there, you will find birds for us.”Kurangaituku agreed to this, and she went. Hatupatu stayed behind as usual, roasting birds for himself and thinking, “I wonder how far she’s travelled by now?” When he thought that she was far enough away, he began to gather up her flaxen cloaks, her cloaks of dogs fur, her cloaks of red feathers, and her taiaha.

He thought to himself, “How great I will look when the feathers on these cloaks are stirred by the wind.” He used the taiaha to attack Kurangaituku’s lizards. Soon they were all killed. Then he struck at the perch where her little pet birds sat, and he killed all of them except one. One little bird escaped, and flew away to fetch back the Bird-Woman. When he found her he cried, “Our home is ruined, our things are all destroyed.” “Who has done this?” replied the Bird- Woman. And the little bird answered, “Hatupatu. Everything is gone.”

Then the Bird-Woman hurried back to her home. She had made only three strides when she reached the cave, and found nobody there. But the little bird showed her where Hatupatu had gone, and she ran on. Hatupatu heard her behind him, and he thought, “I’m done for now.” So he repeated a magic charm he knew, “Oh rock, open for me, open.”

Then the rock opened, and he hid inside it. The Bird-Woman came running past the rock, but she could not see him, and she ran on.

After her voice had died away in the distance, Hatupatu came out of the rock and kept running. When he came to Rotorua, the Bird-Woman saw him once more and chased him, throwing stones at him as she went. But then Hatupatu came to the boiling springs at Whakarewarewa. He jumped over the springs, but she tried to run through them and was burnt to death.

Then Hatupatu came to the shores of Lake Rotorua. His home was on Mokoia Island in the middle of the lake. He dived in and swam under the water to the island, and there he was united with his parents, who had thought for a long time that he was dead.

QUESTIONS:   (answer underneath each question in a different colour and in detail.)

Question 1: What was the Bird-Woman’s name?
Kurangaituku

Question 2: List 3 of the possessions of the Bird-Women?
Pet birds, different types of cloaks like dog fur and red bird feather cloaks and taiaha.

Question 3: What was the Bird-Woman using like a spear? Why?
Her lips, long, hard and pointed like a bird's beak, she was using this as her spear because it was pointed, sharp and was able to throw herself far enough to catch her prey.

Question 4: Why did Hatupatu pretend to eat the raw birds, but hide them instead?
He hid them because they were raw and he could only eat cooked birds.

Question 5:It says….and piles of precious cloaks….What does the word precious mean?
Precious means special or something that is valuable.

Question 6: What did Hatupatu kill in the cave?
Birds and the lizards.

Question 7: Why did he steal the cloaks?
Because they looked nice and he wanted to take it to his island.

Question 8: It says …….he struck at the perch…. What does this phrase struck at the perch mean?
It means he hit a stick or a nest made out of sticks that something like a parrot stands on.

Question 9: How did the Bird-Woman get back to the cave so quickly?
She has wings so it gives her an advantage to fly fast like a cheetah.

Question 10: How did the Bird-Woman die?
She tried to run through Hot Springs then she got burned and died.

Question 11: Why had his parents thought that Hatupatu was dead?
They thought he was dead because he had been gone for a long time so they thought he died.

Question 12: Do you think Hatupatu should have stolen the Bird-Woman’s possessions?
No because it didn’t belong to him but at the same time yes because she died and because he had the chance to.

Cross Country

This week on Tuesday we had Cross Country. The leaders did games for those who weren't racing. We started from the Juniors then worked upwards until we get to the leaders race.

What I learnt:
I learnt that it's Spring and that Cross Country this year was the funnest!!!

The Activities:
There were 6 games, 3 inside and 3 outside. The inside games were Te Rako Sticks, the Blind fold game and the other station was a mix of games. The outside games were the Ball Games, The Warm up games before the race and the Race.

The Race:
The race for me went great even though my legs died in the second lap. I came 6th and the people who came 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th are going to zones. We had to run across the courts then through the trees, around the the pool then up the path way back across the courts onto the field along the gate, down the hill then across the hill down back track then up along the path, then turn and do it one more time.

What I enjoyed:

I enjoyed doing the games and the run. I need to work on long distance runs. I also enjoyed hanging out with friends during the day. I also enjoyed cheering on my friends while they were running the course.

Reflection:
It was an awesome day thanks to Ms Sands and the leaders. Without them we wouldn't have had that awesome day. Thank you Ms Sands and Leaders!!!

I hope you liked my work today. If you could please feel free to leave a Comment or some Feedback for me!!!

Crazy Science Show

This week on Monday we had an EPIC Science Show. Hosted by Richard & Robin.
What I learnt:
I learnt that Magic Tricks are science & that wheat can't be lit with fire. I also learnt that if you put a ball, like a beach ball over a hair dryer the air pressure will float and when you move it will follow the hair dryer where ever it goes.

What I was Surprised by:
I was surprised by the firework because I thought it was going to burn his hand and burn the Juniors. I also liked the rocket launch with the tablet & the cup.

What I Wonder Now:
I wonder if I could do tricks like that. I also wonder if they will be back for another amusing show. I wonder what other tricks they will do at other school and how their tour is going in New Zealand.

What Can I do Now:
I can find out more about science. I could also find out more about Richard & Robin about their findings around the world.
I hope you liked my writing here is some videos & photos below to have a look at & to watch. Enjoy!!!

My Pepeha

For the past few weeks we had to do a Pepeha. A Pepeha is introducing yourself in Maori. Here is a photo of my Pepeha.

What I learnt:

I learnt that tukutuku patterns are a straight pattern for Maori people.

Success:

I finished writing my Pepeha successfully and I successfully coloured my patterns in.

What I Enjoyed:
I enjoyed creating a drawing of tukutuku patterns and finding out more about my family history.

Challenges:
It was hard thinking of patterns to draw as my boarder.

Taekwondo

This week in Taekwondo we had a kicking competition to see who can kick the highest. The 3 rules were: That if you missed you're out, if you hit the top on the way down you're out and you're out if anything besides your feet touch the ground. There are some photos above.

What I learnt:
I learnt that when you do the scissor kick, if you do it quick enough you will reach a high kick.

What I found fun:
I liked doing the relays and doing the kicks. What I also found fun is that I liked watching my friends and watching Caitlin nail the last kick. Caitlin won.

My Reflection:
Taekwondo is a fun sport to do. I can't wait for next time. Taekwondo rules thanks to Ma'me! Taekwondo was fun and kids, "Do not use the technique out of school or in the playground!"

Mt Ruapehu Camp

Camp At Mt Ruapehu

This week we were asked to do a slideshow on Camp. It has all the info we needed on camp.

Challenges:
On camp we had a lot of challenges on & off the mountain. On the mountain it was a challenge to get on and to learn how to ride a snowboard, while riding I had lots of stumbles on the snow, I slipped lots of times and I even made my brother tumble.. Off the mountain we had a challenge to keep quiet because we had the top rooms on top deck to ourselves. My dad came with me and my brother and made everyone laugh.

Success:
During camp we also had success. I completed learning how to ride a snowboard and completed getting to know different people that didn't know before.

Reflection:
I  really enjoyed Mt Ruapehu camp. It was first camp and was very interesting camp. I liked so much, hanging out with Amaya, James and others.

Snow Code

This week we were asked to do an infographic about the Snow Code for Mt Ruapehu. The reason we had to write the infographic is because next week the seniors are going to  Mt Ruapehu camp. This infographic talks about the rules at Mt Ruapehu. Please check out my work above.

My Reflection:
I think this is a set of rules that we should follow because it will keep us safe. Please take this advice and use it when ever you go to Mt Ruapehu. If you follow them you will be fine.

What was fun about it:
It was fun making an infographic because I liked adding photos and writing the goals on the infographic.

My Pick A Path Story

In writing we did a narrative pick a path story. We had to create a setting and then write a story about it. As we wrote it, we had to write one paragraph on each page. When we finished we had to create 2 endings, 1 bad and 1 good, then we had to go back onto each page and make a link on to solution 1 that would lead us to goodness and 1 that would lead us to darkness.

What I found fun about it:
What I found fun is that I liked linking the solutions and problems. It was funny when I tested it on someone and the took the wrong path. Another thing I found fun is that it was nice to write what we wanted to write as a narrative.

My Reflection:
It was a little hard because sometimes the links didn't work. I still had fun. I hope you liked my work. Please feel free to leave a comment or some feedback. I can't wait to see your work:) Blog you later bloggers!!!

Counting Backwards and Forwards in Fractions

This week in Maths we were asked to do an infographic on Counting Backwards and Forwards in Fractions. We had to give 3 examples on how to count forwards and backwards.

What Was Fun About It:
What I found about it is that I liked learning how to count backwards and forwards, also because it was cool learning new things about the docs and drawings. I learnt that the docs and drawings don't recognise all fractions. It was also fun because Ms Sands made it fun.

Reflection:
I think it was hard because it was my first time counting forwards and backwards in fractions. Also it was a fun learning experience working with different people I don't usually work with in Waitemata and Manukau. I can't wait for the next challenge Ms Sands, Mr Riceman or Mr Ross throw at me.

I hope you liked my work. Please feel free to leave a comment or some feedback. I can't wait to see some of your work:) Catch you later bloggers!!!

Time To Start Building

This week we were asked to make a tent out of:
Tooth Picks
A Tube of Modelling Clay
Cardboard

We were asked to make a tent since camp is in a few weeks. I used the modelling clay to connect he parts together and the tooth picks to be the tent. When we had finish we had to take a photo of our creation and put it on a blog post before lunch.

What Was Fun About it...
Is that it was nice building something and it was fun doing something to get away from our Chromebook for a day.

My Reflection:
It was hard because it kept falling, making this creation was also very hard because some of our ideas broke while building because some of the creations weren't strong enough. Why was it falling was because I wasn't using enough clay and because I wasn't connecting it right places. How I completed it is by adding more clay so it has more pressure holding it up and by using the clay to connect in the correct places.
Failure was another step closer to completing this task.

Things may be hard in life peeps, but remember that you can learn from your mistakes. I hope you liked my work. I'll Blog Yous Later peeps!!!

Comic Stripe

Comic Stripe
This week during Inquiry we did a Comic Stripe on emailing. I enjoyed working with my friends and with different people, I also enjoyed learning what not to do and how others work with me. We had to get in a Group of 3 and show how you shouldn't  email. Here's My Work!

I hope you liked it. It was hard because we couldn't think of an idea and also because the ideas we chose first were already taken. My next steps would be to try and expand our ideas. I hope you liked my work.

Creative Writing

This week during Creative Writing with Mr Ross we were asked to create a new doc and use our imagination to create a story about a picture we found on internet. Here's my work.

DSC_0081-2-2.jpg

Tigers
I lurk in forest waiting for my prey to deliver themselves. Waiting for hours in the same spot. Silence reigns upon the forest until… Grr! My delicious lunch has just arrived, scratching and biting the battle has finally begun.

There’s nowhere to turn and no way out of this madness. Chasing this meerkat up and down trees. I’m exhausted, when will this battle end. Striking once, then them striking back. It’s a game I play with them meerkats, I wait for them to deliver themselves or I hunt them and then another battle begins.

Finally the war ended, I have won and my prey has died a tragic death. As I entered my territory, I could smell the burning of blood tumbling from someone’s body. I walk towards the smell, but as I entered the second fight of the day, something leaps out without 1 sight being seen. Soon I make up my mind and the chase has struck upon me.

I chase until I run into a dead end. Wondering is it a threat to my kind, maybe we could start this chase once again. Walking home I hear a familiar noise coming in from the North, I ignore the noise but it gets increases each second, I have to find out what the noise is. The only problem is I haven’t eaten, I keep getting distracted by things and my paws are really dirty.

Bang, lightening struck and thunder echoed what else could happen on this powerful day. Bang! Thunder keeps striking and the thunder gets louder and louder and I can’t do anything about it. I wonder when it will stop. My plans will be ruined once again because last time it was raining my plans were destroyed. Soon I wasn’t the only one wishing for luck, someone has broken into my territory. It was the lions, I told them no breaking in at night no matter how heavy the rain gets.

They took 1 look at me and detected that I’m not a friend of their kind. They wondering and think on how I will begin the attack. Unfortunately they took too long so I took the first strike and wounded the king, then at once the battle begun. Soon the chase comeced in the middle of the battle and I sprinted until I pounced onto the thick body… My claws dug into his skin until it was deep enough for me to attack on the inside. That battle was the hardest one for me through my fighting career.

Family always told me, you lose once try once more and if you lose again back off. That was the hardest thing for me to do around them lose because once someone in our family lost twice and that day they died in the same spot they fought. My life is hard sometimes but somewhere inside my heart always tells me there is peace somewhere.

When there is peace my family comes together and has a nice holiday when there is food everywhere. My family is nice but is very competitive against each other because there is always someone who loses and there is always someone who wins… Which has to be our family. If you want we can plan a challenge someday and see lets see who wins, me or YOU!!!

Writing this was fun because usually in Writing we would be given a picture to write about. It was hard because I chose a tiger picture to write about and in our writing we had to use descriptive words, I was trying to think of different types of descriptive words instead of the same ones we use everyday. If you liked my work please feel free to Comment or to leave feedback.
